Elementary Club Practice CANCELED 01/10/24

10 Jan by David Crouse

YWC members,

Club practice for tonight (01/10/24) has been canceled. There been an outbreak of “ringworm” and impetigo among some Middle School and High School wrestlers. The High School Athletic Director has asked the Club to cancel practice so they can spend the next 2 days disinfecting the wrestling mats, the walls in the wrestling room, and the wrestling locker room at the high school.

This is a good time to remind all Elementary parents that it is necessary to ensure your wrestler showers immediately after each wrestling practice. The fungus that causes “ringworm” can live inside the wrestling mats due to their porous nature. Although the Club ensures the mats are mopped with disinfectant prior to each practice, sometimes issues still arise.

Anti-fungal soaps are available. “Defense Soap” has a line of products geared towards wrestlers. If your wrester experiences any skin abnormalities that resemble “ringworm” or impetigo, please seek the medical attention necessary to elimate the skin condition as soon as possible. Over-the-counter ointments are available to treat “ringworm”. Lotrimin and other brands have antifungal treatments specifically for ringworm. Stronger antifungal treatments are available from the Dermatologist.

Impetigo must be treated with an antiboitic. Please see a physician as soon as possible if you suspect your wrester has impetigo.

Thank you for your assistance, we need everyone’s help to prevent any further issues. Please remember, if your wrestler has one of these skin conditions, they will not be able to compete. As we approach High School Sectionals, we must be very diligent to ensure our High School wrestlers are not witheld from competition.

Sincerely,
Yorktown Wrestling Club
